Happy New Year!
What a gift it is to have a brand new liturgical year as we start Advent together. We are blessed with an ever-renewing experience of an ever-changing journey. Being Christians means that we know where we have been and we know where we are going. We know that we have been charged and challenged and we will continue to be called to rise to our call. Since each of us faces the difficulties of holy struggle, each day remains an occasion for faith. But we have put ourselves in God’s precious will and we are filled with God’s Holy Spirit and we are inspired to recognize the face of Jesus in each person we encounter on our way. And what a way it is! There is nothing like God’s faithfulness to help us keep going. We just need each other to remind us of that faithfulness. And that’s why we have church. That’s why we are church.
I am so grateful that St. Clement is my church. I see so many people here who show me with their service and their humor and their persistence and their tact and their joy that God’s grace is abounding and God will help us to keep on keeping on.
So, Happy New Year to you and yours! And when that other New Year’s comes, that December 31st one, may that be happy, too!
