Overflow Shelter

As we have for over 10 years, St. Clement's will open its doors to the homeless this winter.

Due to overcrowding at the city's main shelter (from January 2 - March 15, 2008), we operate an overflow shelter for homeless men that otherwise would have to sleep outdoors.

Our shelter guests are prescreened for alcohol and arrive at St. Clement's in the evening after receiving their dinner. We provide a safe, warm and loving refuge from winter's deadly chill. The men sleep in our sanctuary six nights a week on mats we provide and use our sheets, blankets and pillows.

In the morning the men leave for breakfast to return to the city's main shelter or, in the case of the working poor, to their jobs. We are always in need of volunteers for the shelter operation, including shelter openers, overnight supervisors, food preparers and to perform other important functions.

Click here to print information, explanation of volunteer functions, and contacts for this coming shelter season.

The St. Clement Shelter operates Sundays through Fridays from January 2 through March 15, 2007. In order to provide this valuable community service, we need individuals to serve as Shelter Openers, Food Preparers, Emergency Overnight Volunteers, and Laundry Volunteers.

Contact Elsie Mosqueda with any shelter questions.

The shelter also welcomes funding donations as well as donations of food, sheets and pillow cases.

Items needed include:

standard size pillow cases (gently used)
flat, twin sheets (gently used)
cookies, chips and other unopened snack items
cocoa mix
tea
juice
cups
napkins

THANK YOU TO ALL WHO VOLUNTEERED FOR THE SHELTER!

Shelter is open:

Sundays through Fridays from
Jan 2 - March 15
